University Settlement forges partnerships between neighbors on the Lower East Side and in Brooklyn, engaging more than 40,000 New Yorkers in efforts to build stronger communities every year. They've been working to build a more equitable NYC for 135 years by:
- Fighting poverty and systemic inequality with programs that respond to community priorities.
- Engaging all members of their communities, from newborns to elders.
- Nurturing the whole person by addressing basic needs as well as by facilitating culture, learning and community.
University Settlement recognizes that living systems are complex, as are people’s identities, which can result in compounding and intersectional experiences of inequity. Honoring differences, insisting on complexity, and forging relationships are pillars of their approach to building strong communities. It is a conversation that starts with neighbors listening to neighbors and adapting as communities change.
Our outreach program
ADVANCED is dedicated to giving back in a way that puts community interests first and recognizes the systemic changes needed to create a more equitable world for us all. It was critical that we could support a group that provided us with a means to offer long term and sustainable support and impactful change in a community. That’s why we are proud to partner with University Settlement and support at-risk residents of New York City.
When looking for a partner, we knew we wanted to prioritize demographics (including People of Color, LGBTQIA people, Women, people living with disabilities, immigrants, and so many others) who are most likely to face systemic inequities and experience oppression. As an organization, University Settlement stood out as the clear partner to meet this criteria with their broad focus on supporting and empowering at-risk communities. Our partnership with University Settlement allows us to reach an extensive and diverse group of New Yorkers with the comprehensive services they need to succeed.
100% of proceeds of your purchase will go towards our philanthropic partner University Settlement, which partners with 40,000 New Yorkers each year to make NYC a more equitable place for ALL.
